Little Big Gem Mine & Rock Shop

PLEASE NOTE: Being an outdoor activity we are a seasonal business open primarily from April 1-November 30. If in doubt please call.

Also if you are following us on Facebook please look for the new page titled just "Little Big Gem Mine". Due to hackers we have lost access to posting or responding to anything on our original FB page.

Located in beautiful Oldham County! Drive just 30 minutes from Louisville and you'll feel as if you've stepped into another world. Our 350 acre farm is peaceful and just a nice place to be. You can mine for your own gemstones, check out our crystal store, and the kids can run wild and play in the sandbox. Come out and visit and you'll see.

All visitors get a free Kentucky geode.

The Gem Mine

AKA "Mr Gemmy"

We really do have the best bags around! Our gem mining rough ranges in cost from $10-$50. Our bags and buckets include gems, crystals, and fossils from around the world. The famous BB+ is what everyone wants and for good reason-it's loaded! Every bag includes an identification guide.

Our Giant Sandbox

Fan Favorite

The sandbox has become just as popular with the kiddos as the gem mine and it's free! We keep it loaded with buried treasure and everyone gets to keep two things that they find. The sandbox is loaded with Kentucky fossils. It's a little dirty but they love it.

The Rock Shop

My Dream Shop

So this is literally my dream. It's cute, it's quaint, and just fun to have. It's a tiny space but loaded with crystals, amethyst, fossils, gemstone trees, jewelry, ect... Whatever unique or specific item you’re looking for if we don't have it we’ll do our best to find it for you. We're confident you’ll love our Little Big Gem Mine & Rock Shop.

A Bit About Us

How It All Began

During the pandemic of 2020 we found ourselves spending more time outdoors, specifically walking in our creek. I've always had an interest in geology and Garnett likes to hunt for artifacts so we were quite happy with our pandemic activity. We started finding really cool fossils and geodes and I kept thinking about how much kids would also enjoy doing this. One thing led to another and here we are with a 30' sluice I like to call Mr. Gemmy, a shop full of rocks, and a sandbox full of kids. I can honestly say that this is the best job I've had. I literally witness joy everyday.
